Valentines Day is all about doing something special for your loved one. While fancy restaurants, diamonds and being given permission to spend the morning playing golf might be some people’s idea of a special treat, others appreciate things that have real thought put into them. Baking a Valentines Cake is just one perfect way of showing your partner how you feel about them.

They’re much more likely to appreciate the effort you’ve gone to in making their cake than the bunch of flowers you picked up at the garage on the way home. Baking is something that doesn’t have to be complicated. While some meals are very hard to create from scratch, most cakes are as simple as mix, cook, decorate, slice, eat.

To make things even simpler for you, we’ve compiled this quick recipe that you can present to your loved one in around an hour. All you need is:

• Cake Mixture • Whipped Cream • Strawberry filling • Two 8-inch Cake Tins • Clean White Paper • Scissors • Icing • Spatula

1. To start, make your favourite cake as you normally would into the two 8” cake pans.

2. Once they’ve cooked, turn them both out onto a large dinner plate.

3. Trace a circle from the cake pan onto a sheet of clean white paper, and trim the circle into the shape of a heart.

4. Take your now cool cakes and place one of the heart templates on top. Taking a knife, trim the cake to fit the template – but don’t throw away the cake!! You can eat that later!

5. Repeat the step for the second cake.

6. Carefully line the top of one cake and bottom of the other with the whipped cream, then add the strawberry filling onto the cake that you intend to be the bottom half of the finished product.

7. Carefully place the top cake onto the bottom. The more gentle you are at this stage, the less filling will leak out of the sides.

8. Take your icing and cover the top and sides of the cake to complete the decorating stage – at this stage you can be as creative as you wish.

9. Place the cake into the freezer to set.

10. Present it to your loved one, and enjoy!
