Here at Sugarshack, we know that expert advice is priceless, that's why we've asked the lovely Louise Dueholm over at
Cake Journal.com to supply us with what she believes to be the top ten
cake decoration accessories - the ones that she can't do without, and here they are. Enjoy, and happy baking!
Rolling pins. A large one for fondant and smaller ones for decoration. I like both wood and non-stick.
Cake Pans. A good quality cake pan is essential when baking cakes. My favorite brand is Invicta but I also love brands like Wilton and Silverwood.
Cake smoothers. No smooth fondant without a pair of smoothers. They are essential if you want to obtain a silky smooth finish on your cakes.
Small angled spatula. I find this the best to use when I crumb coat my cakes or frost my cupcakes.
Modeling tools. I have many different types of modeling tools that I use when I make figurines or gum paste flowers. The two modeling tools that I always use are the Ball and the Veining/Dresden tools.
Rose petal cutters. The best rose petal cutters come from TinkerTech. I have them in various sizes so that I can make both small and large roses.
Flower cutters. I have two flowers cutters that I use a lot for my cakes and cupcakes. The Hydrangea and the Petunia flower cutters.
Flower veiners. My two most used flower veiners are the 5 petal veiner and the Hydrangea petal veiner. Use them together with cut out flowers and you will have sweet flowers for your cakes and cupcakes.
Embossing tools. Patchwork Cutters and Holly Products makes sweet embossing tools that I use on fondant covered cakes, cupcakes and cookies.
Food color & dusts. Colors always make it more fun. I love to use brands like Sugar Flair, Squires Kitchen, Edible Art and Rainbow Dust.
